Teen Therapy Seattle:

Your Space, Your Voice, Your Mental Health

Does this sound like you?

  • “Everyone around me seems so sure of who they are and what they want. I’m over here questioning everything about myself - my interests, goals, even my gender. It’s like I’m lost in this sea of expectations, and I don’t know where I fit.”

  • “I’ve always felt like I don’t quite match up with what my family expects of me. They have this whole plan for my future, but I’m not sure it’s what I want. I want to make them proud, but I also want to be proud of myself.”

  • “I can be in a room full of people, but it feels like I’m all alone. It’s like I’m wearing this invisible mask, pretending that everything’s okay. But inside, it’s just this numbness and sadness that won’t go away.”

  • “It feels like I’m constantly behind in life, but I can’t do anything about it. I just want to shut myself off from the world and stay in bed all day.”

  • “Social events used to be fun, but now they just make me anxious. I worry about saying the wrong thing or embarrassing myself. I’d rather be by myself than deal with the stress of being around others.”

  • “I can’t stop overthinking everything. It’s like my mind is always racing, and even the smallest decisions feel like a big deal. I wish I could just turn it off and relax for once.”

Life can be hard, but you don’t have to do it alone. We can help.

If you’re dealing with stress, anxiety, or just the overwhelming chaos of being a teenager, we’re here to help. We recognize how challenging it can be to just navigate life as a young person, especially in this day and age. Whether it be maintaining relationships, future uncertainties, exploring your identity, or getting through different life transitions, Teen Therapy Seattle can help.

How Teen Therapy Seattle Works:

Our group of licensed therapists offer individual talk therapy, group therapy, somatic therapy, and other creative ways to heal. You might be thinking… Am I just paying for someone to listen to me? Will that even do anything for me? The short answer to this is yes, research shows that for many people, therapy is effective at improving your mental health and wellbeing. Here are some evidence-based methods that we utilize during our therapy sessions:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT focuses on identifying and reshaping negative thought patterns. By understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, you gain valuable tools to challenge and change unhelpful cognitive patterns.

  • Mindfulness: Mindfulness involves cultivating present-moment awareness. It teaches you how to live in the present instead of dwelling on thoughts of the past or future. Through mindfulness practices, you develop the ability to observe thoughts and emotions without judgment, promoting emotional regulation and overall well-being.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Based Therapy (ACT): ACT encourages acceptance of difficult thoughts and feelings, fostering mindfulness and psychological flexibility. Together, we will explore what kind of values you want to live your life by. By aligning actions with core values, you can navigate challenges with resilience and authenticity.

  • Expressive Arts & Non-Verbal Therapy: Expressive Arts Therapy is using colors, shapes, dance, and music to express how you feel without needing to find all the right words. It's a cool way to let out what's going on inside your head and heart. It's all about letting your imagination run wild, and the best part is, there are no rules.

What to Expect in a Therapy Session:

Each person has different and unique needs, which is why we tailor different approaches to each person. When you first meet with us, we’ll talk about what kind of problems you’re going through and what you want to work on. We’ll collaborate on a treatment plan with you to help you meet your goals. Even if you’re unsure what you want out of therapy, we’ll guide you through it. Each therapy session is about an hour long, and everything shared in our sessions will be kept between us, unless there is a safety concern.

The Kaleidoscope: Embracing your Multifaceted Self

You’re a kaleidoscope of colors, each representing a unique aspect of who you are. At times, it may feel like these pieces don’t quite fit together, or as if you have to fit these pieces a certain way in order to be accepted by others. The fear of disrupting perceptions and disappointing the expectations of others is holding you back. Let’s explore different facets of your identity, rearranging the pieces to create a harmonious and vibrant masterpiece that reflects the real you.

The Luminary: Balancing the Spotlight

In the spotlight, you shine with achievements, good friends, and clear goals. You’re a beacon that guides others with your light, and many may look up to you. However, behind the scenes, there’s a struggle within yourself that’s hard for others to see and understand. Maintaining the appearance of success, you fear that revealing your vulnerability could dim your light. It’s time to explore the balance between your public and private self, finding strength in authenticity.

The Explorer: Navigating Uncertainty

You’re an explorer, filled with curiosity about the world and your place in it. Yet, anxiety often acts as a maze, making it challenging to find your way. Sleepless nights and overwhelming worry make even the simplest tasks feel like hurdles. It’s as if anxiety has become a roadblock to your adventures. Together, let’s map out strategies to navigate the maze and rediscover the excitement of exploration.

The Cipher: Beyond the Surface

You feel like a cipher, a puzzle waiting to be solved, and you’re not sure if anyone truly understands you. While you may feel like the only safe space you have is the privacy of your room, the weight of carrying your pain alone is hard. It’s time to create a safe space together where you can unravel your mysteries, finding connection and support without judgment.

 FAQs For Teens:

  • Yes. Confidentiality is our top priority. Information shared in therapy remains confidential (between you and the therapist) unless 1) you give me permission to share with someone else, or 2) there’s a serious risk of harm to you or someone else. We’ll go over the specifics during our first meeting.

  • Therapy sessions provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you to express yourself. Discussions can cover emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, and we use various therapeutic approaches tailored to your needs.

  • The duration of therapy varies based on your specific needs and goals. Some find resolution in a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy. Regular assessments are conducted by your therapists to gauge your progress.

  • Absolutely! We strongly encourage a collaborative approach. However, what information you want us to share with your parent, if at all, is up to you. We also offer family therapy if you want to explore challenges with your family present.

For Parents and Guardians:

First off, thank you for taking the time to seek services for your young one. As adults who have been through it all, we know personally just how difficult and confusing the world of adolescence can be, which is why we’re here to partner with you on this journey. Here’s how you can navigate and support your teen through our services:

  • Confidentiality Assurance: We prioritize the privacy and confidentiality of the client- your teen. It can be hard to not be in the loop of what your teen is going through, so we ask that you trust in the therapeutic process and put the needs of your teens privacy and autonomy first. Rest assured, we are mandated reporters and will share more detailed information with you if there is a safety concern.

  • Open Communication: We want to facilitate open to conversations with your teen about their experiences in therapy. We will encourage this in therapy with your teen, and also encourage these conversations to happen with you and your family outside of therapy.

  • Collaborative Approach: You as the parents/caregiver are a crucial part of the therapeutic process. It is our goal to collaborate with you- offering you updates and feedback as much we can and as your teen allows.

 FAQs For Parents/Guardians:

  • Approach the conversation with empathy and openness. Express your concern, emphasizing that therapy is a supportive space and that receiving therapy does not mean there’s anything wrong with your teen. Highlight the benefits and reassure them of your support throughout the process.

  • While we strongly value and encourage collaboration, what is shared outside of sessions is up to the client- your teen. Confidentiality and trust are crucial to the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist. Information will only be shared outside of the client’s consent if there is a safety concern.
